75th Anniversary Of The U.S. Air Force

As we honor the United States Air Force for 75 years of dedicated service as a branch of the military, it is important to realize that the story of the Air Force begins long before it became an official branch on September 18, 1947.

  • Exploring the Civil Air Patrol – The NVMM went on the road to watch the Central Ohio Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) conduct training exercises.
  • The History and Lineage of the U.S. Air Force – The Air Force traces its lineage back to the first gliders and aeroplanes produced by Orville and Wilbur Wright in Dayton, Ohio at the turn of the 20th century.
  • Visiting the MNUSAF – The Air Force traces its lineage back to the first gliders and aeroplanes produced by Orville and Wilbur Wright in Dayton, Ohio at the turn of the 20th century.

After-School All Stars

“All these years later, I found myself in a position where I could, in some small way, give back to our nation’s Veterans who gave so much and asked for so little. I had to do something and seeing as though rock n’ roll seems to be what I do best, it’s also the least I could for those who served and continue to serve our country. I’m an example, if you never forget your father – a Gold Star kid can grow up to make a difference.”

CELEBRATIONS AND MORE

The Museum opens its doors to corporate and private events throughout the year. In 2022, the Museum was home to multiple weddings, Museum buyouts and other events that allowed guests to get a special look at the architecture and and the panoramic views of Downtown Columbus.

FUNDRAISING

The late Senator John Glenn envisioned the National Veterans Memorial and Museum as a place to recognize and honor the experiences of Veterans–because these are ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things. You can help us ensure their stories live on by supporting the only museum in America that gives a voice to ALL our Veterans.

“CAS joined in supporting the National Veterans Memorial & Museum in 2018 to show respect and dedication to preserving the years of military service of thousands of men and women, past and future. The partnership between the NVMM and CAS has grown to something much bigger than we ever anticipated. CAS has been able to support and impact the work that aims to improve the opportunities and well-being of Veterans, young and old. Because of this our continued goal to bring awareness to the work, increase opportunities so that others join in to support and to make connections that align with the NVMM’s mission to honor, connect, inspire, and educate.”

“I felt a sense of overwhelming dedication and comfort the first time I visited the Museum. I don’t have any family here in Columbus, so the NVMM is a place where I truly feel welcomed like a member of this family. I’ve joined the Veterans Resource Group and I attend events when I can. I appreciate the sense of camaraderie here and I would encourage other veterans to take advantage of this amazing resource.”

Lt. Maggie Holbein, U.S. Navy Veteran and NVMM Member

Consider giving a gift membership in 2023! For example, leaders such as Craig White, Brian Houts, and companies like CAS have purchased multiple gift memberships in 2022 to honor Veteran team members and clients.

Our Team

We’re honored to have a dedicated team of hardworking and devoted individuals working together to further the mission of the Museum. Their time and talent are a huge factor in our success.
